Principal's Message

Welcome to Hogan Middle School where we are the home of the Spartans! I am super excited to serve as your principal. As I begin my fifth year with the HMS community; I would  like to welcome the staff and the families of the Benjamin Franklin school community who have joined us this school year. As we blend two schools; we take pride in One school, One team and One goal. As you know, we opened this school year with distance learning; due to the coronavirus; the virus has made our school learning environment unsafe and unhealthy for students and staff to return to school. I am confident that even during this pandemic; our teachers and staff will work hard to make distance learning a positive experience for our students. We will continue to focus on our school wide instructional goals: providing our students daily opportunities to access the common core standards; ensuring that students excel in literacy and becoming critical thinkers. We will  utilize our Odysseyware program which challenges our students' learning while customizing an academic plan that will ensure ALL students will meet and/or exceed in their academic performance. In addition, we continue to be intentional with supporting the social and emotional needs of our students during the instructional school day.

We will continue to foster a learning community that is safe and reflects a culture of respect from and for everyone even during distance learning. Here at Hogan Middle  we are proud of our academic and enrichment programs; where we offer a well- balanced learning environment; STEAM curriculum, band and Spanish classes, wrestling program, robotics/coding classes. In addition, we have a yearbook class, a leadership class which includes peer tutoring, after school program and student clubs. Partner with me and my awesome staff as we continue to make Hogan Middle School a great place for students to learn and develop into tomorrow’s leaders.

Did you know ?

I am a native of Vallejo, I graduated from Vallejo Senior High. My undergraduate study was completed at Solano Community College and Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama. My teaching credential and graduate work were completed at Sonoma State University and San Francisco State University respectively. This is my 24th year in the Vallejo City Unified School District where I have worked as a substitute teacher, middle school teacher, Vice Principal, elementary Principal and now the  Principal of Hogan Middle School. I am married and have two adult children. When I am not working I enjoy hanging out and traveling with my family. A few fun facts: A legacy of teachers in my family; my mom a 35 year retired special education teacher, my aunt a 52 year retired preschool teacher/supervisor and my father now retired worked in management for 42 years for a school District in the Marin County area. My favorite snack: Lay’s classic potato chips with a coke; and the best part about being a principal is working with my amazing staff and encouraging students towards reaching their goals!

I look forward to another great year!
