Principal's Message

Hogan Middle School provides a quality education for all students. Our dedicated, professional teaching staff uses a variety of teaching strategies, including pacing guides, direct instruction and cooperative learning groups, based on California Teaching Standards, Taking Center Stage, and grade level requirements. Our master schedule is planned with student needs in mind and providing support as necessary. Our mathematics and language arts teachers have access to continuous and ongoing staff development and support. The pursuit of excellence here at Hogan is data driven, by dedicated, highly qualified teachers and support staff. Our new goal: 800 or bust!

We are proud that our Academic Performance Index is the highest of all secondary school s in the district. We celebrate academics with bulletin boards of Power Students who score 70% or higher on the District Wide Assessments, Students of the Month for exemplary behavior, Honor Roll, and progress towards all of those goals. We have a semi-annual Awards Night to celebrate proficient and advanced CST scores, Honor Roll, Perfect Attendance, our Power Students, as well as Students on the Academic Climb, those students who show a 10% increase in District Wide Assessment scores from the prior District Wide Assessment. We hold a Curriculum Faire in the spring and the Science Fair on the same night. We offer Cool School, an after school tutorial program for students needing academic support, as well as enrichment opportunities.

We continue to work toward increasing our PTA, School Site Council, and English Learners Advisory Council parent participation, and to provide opportunities for parents to volunteer.

We have a full time college advisor, Irene Ndibuzu and an intern, Jessica Williams in our College Center. They hold weekly meeting, set up bulletin boards, and give classroom presentations on college preparation and career awareness. We have implemented the WEB program (Where Everybody Belongs) which 8thgraders to be mentors to our incoming 6thgraders.

Hogan strives to have students learn not only academics, but how to make correct choices so that they will be prepared academically, socially, and emotionally for high school and eventually to enter society as a productive and successful contributor. Our mission is to provide quality education to our diverse student community.

We are committed to our vision through continuously improving our professional teaching standards. In carrying out our mission and vision, we are guided by these principles: Teach Everyone, Respect Diversity, Expect Excellence, and Celebrate Success. By working together we develop pride in our diverse community. We believe positive attitude, high expectations, mastery of the California Standards at each grade level, and celebrations of both excellence and progress towards excellence are what make Hogan Middle School exemplary.
